This is our absolute favorite question to answer as we love talking all about our family, our experience as breeders, how we are passing down all the "dog lover" qualities we possess and exactly who, what, and how EAP Acres came to fruition.
We are the cavalier lovers of EAP Acres, Andy and Christine Pearl along with our 4 children-Ellisyn, Emmett, Eversyn, & Emmingtyn. They are the EAP behind our name as they all have the same initials are are the foundation and reason for everything we do. We are high school sweethearts who are now in our early to mid 30's and have been loving one another for 20 years this year! We are dog people to a fault and our children have gotten it honest. We come from a very long family line of puppy breath lovin', dog hair wearin', always sharing the blanket with a furry friend type of people, and we wouldn't have it any other way!
We always give credit where credit is due so here is how it all happened and exactly how breeding dogs, respecting and maintaining the integrity of each breed, and educating and including our children on pet health and happiness all started.
Back in the 1960's, Andy's grandparents started hand-raising St. Bernards and began instilling the importance of health and temperament of dogs into his mother, Traci. As a little girl she was hands on with welping and raising puppies and her love of dogs grew by the day. She knew that she was meant to take care of and love dogs forever and grew up to do just that. She and her husband, Bob, started raising the breed of their dreams, Siberian Huskies, when he was stationed in Louisiana while serving our country in the Air Force, and they welcomed their oldest son, Andy, in 1988.
Andy's parents moved back to Ohio and started a very successful boarding and grooming business in 1993, which they still own and operate and continue to raise their huskies. When Andy was a small child, he helped care for their puppies and grew to become a lover of showmanship, obedience training, and agility with his dogs, Mickey and Midnight. He continued to learn and expand on his knowledge of puppy care and dog training throughout his childhood, while earning local and state level recognition with his showing abilities.
We met in middle school when we were 12 and 14 years old at our school science fair, and have been inseparable ever since. Although we were young, we were best friends who both loved dogs and each other and worked hard at everything we wanted to accomplish together. I started working at Andy's parent's business as soon as I could and Traci trained me to be a groomer, which I continued to do and loved throughout high school and my undergraduate studies to become a registered nurse. Once we finished our undergraduate studies, we both continued our education to obtain our Master's Degrees as a Nurse Practitioner and an Occupational Therapist, and we couldn't wait to get married and start a family of our own.
Once Andy and I were married, we soon decided that we wanted to have children and were blessed with 3 beautiful daughters and 1 handsome son. Many have asked where the name "EAP Acres" was derived and the meaning behind it. We named each of our children with the same initials, EAP, and it is only fitting that since everything we are striving for is revolved around our children that we created a name that was special, unique, and held as much meaning to us as the foundation of our program.
The generations of breeding taught us so many valuable life lessons and helped instill such a great sense of respect, diligence, and the ability to compassionately care for dogs throughout the years, and this was something that we greatly desired for our children. We wanted them to have the best of both worlds...The best friend and companionship that you have with a pet and the sense of responsibility that you learn and the knowledge gained through welping and raising puppies.
So it became time for us to choose what breed we felt was the best fit for what we wanted in family pets, which was playfulness, a well adjusted temperament, affectionate, and a snuggle pup. Throughout all the years, we knew two cavaliers that I groomed. When I say that I fell in love with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels at first sight, I truly mean it so it was a "no brainer" decision for me and it was meant to be!
Our children have gained so much from being so completely involved in our program from traveling to vet appointments...to hand welping our puppies in our home...to helping puppies learn to latch for the fist time...to supplementing nutrition if needed...to keeping records of weight gain...to taking puppy photos/videos...and everything from birth to the day they meet their new families and they wouldn't have it any other way. This is what makes what we are doing so very special and such a great opportunity for learning and developing such monumental attributes that you can't develop otherwise.
